Free Cooling Systems

Free Cooling is a cooling method that utilizes the low temperature of the outdoor environment to obtain most of the cooling energy naturally, providing high efficiency for data centers. Unlike traditional mechanical cooling systems, it minimizes compressor use and significantly reduces energy consumption. ERFA Information Technologies integrates Free Cooling systems with chiller, dry cooler, and precision air conditioning infrastructures, achieving maximum energy savings through automatic transitions based on climatic conditions.

System Type:

Direct / Indirect Free Cooling

Operating Principle:

Use of outdoor air or fluid through a heat exchanger

Energy Efficiency:

30–60% improvement in PUE value

Control:

Automatic transition modes (mechanical / natural cooling)

Application Area:

Medium and large-scale data centers

Advantage:

Minimum energy consumption and environmentally friendly operation

In Free Cooling systems, when the outdoor temperature drops below a certain threshold, the system automatically switches to natural cooling mode. This disables the compressor and provides cooling only through fan or pump energy. This method not only reduces energy costs but also extends component life, lowering maintenance costs.

"With cooling power drawn from nature, energy savings become the key to sustainable data centers."

ERFA Information Technologies uses intelligent control algorithms that continuously monitor environmental data (outdoor temperature, humidity, water flow, pressure difference) in Free Cooling solutions. This allows the system to automatically select the most efficient operating mode according to climate conditions and load status. In addition, through DCIM integration, energy consumption, PUE value, and thermal performance are monitored in real time. Free Cooling infrastructures are an indispensable solution for modern data centers aiming for low carbon footprint and high sustainability.
